An Open Letter to Roger Goodell

So I'm taking a break from Jack Russell topics to post my thoughts about a controversy brewing now that the Saints have actually gotten to the "big game." I don't want to use the actual name that this game is known by as I may receive a cease and desist order from the NFL for promoting something from which they profit. It's nonsense. For background info, read the story about Fleurty Girl, a New Orleans-based business being harrassed by the NFL.

Dear Mr. Goodell,

I find it interesting how Wikipedia tells of the origin of the fleur de lis dating back to the 12th century. It has been utilized worldwide by kingdoms, sports teams, and printers of fine stationery. It is a symbol of my French heritage. In fact, it is the official symbol of the state of Louisiana. To my knowledge, your "not-for-profit" corporation owns NEITHER of these.

"Who Dat?" is also a phrase coined by Cajun people and more widely known from when it was used in a song NOT recorded by the NFL.

Are you guys planning to have your lawyers stop the manufacturing of paper bags and claim a portion of the profits from the use of the "Aints" moniker as well? It's funny...many others are noticing...that the NFL did not give a rat's ass about the intertwining of Saints fanaticism and the local culture and heritage until the Saints made it this far. When they were losing, you did not care. Now, your organization's sheer greed is blinding you to the rational and obvious.

If your organization is so caring and involved in the community, you would be satisfied with all of the exhorbitant amounts of money you are already making and perhaps be happy for the economy of a badly damaged city and region to flourish. Hmmm interesting, that's what the fleur de lis is...a FLOURISH (an ornamentation, you may want to look it up)....one that predates the NFL and corporate-organized sports by hundreds of years.

Respectfully,

A New Orleans Native & Lifelong Football Fan (do you have a copyright on that?)
